A week later and my head is still in the clouds being named “2009 Household Manager of the Year”. I so appreciate all the e-mails and notes I have received. This years RTA was such an incredible group of professionals and more than any previous year we really had the chance to get to know one another.

I realize by your feedback that with this award comes responsibility. I am not at the top of my game, this profession is always evolving which is one reason I feel we stay stimulated in our positions. I promise to earn this award and live up to receiving it.

The one key element I came away with this year was Mrs. Starkey’s lecture on the “language” of our profession. Every other career does have a common language, even the careers that circle ours, Private Pilots, Boat Captions and staff, Family Offices, Investment staff. It is going to take all of us to find a common thread of communication (language) so that the professionals that follow in our footsteps will stand on firm ground. Also getting curriculum into college level courses would give the profession of Household Management, Estate Management a pedigree that we don’t currently have.

I look so forward to next years conference in March and until then; let’s continue to keep in touch…
